Position Title: Automation Technician                                                          Reports to: Utilities and Maintenance Lead

Position Summary

The Automation Technician is responsible for the operational reliability of all automated production and building Systems. He / She will provide technical expertise for issues on ongoing manufacturing activities. They are to provide input and recommendations to improve and standardized the process from day to day operations to improve the production process.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with other Technical support group members, Logistic, OPS, QA/QC, ENG and Validation departments to ensure the success of company objectives
  • Support project teams consisting of engineering and operation personnel
  • Support planning and all phases of capital investment projects including concept development, estimating, basic engineering, detailed engineering and design, procurement, and construction and start-up of new or modified production facilities
  • Support all aspects of engineering to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability are met
  • Provide technical expertise and interface with other engineering disciplines/departments, customers and vendors/suppliers to ensure successful development and execution of projects
  • Support preparation, review and approval of specifications, drawings and other documentation; assist in compiling construction packages
  • Provide field support, and participate in check out, commissioning and start up
  • Provide routine technical support to production systems
  • Lead problem resolution activities to ensure optimal functionality of all manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with troubleshooting and setup of Variable Frequency Drives (Allen Bradley, Danfoss)
  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting of PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Install, repair and maintain electrical, electronic equipment, instrumentation as well as computerized systems (HMI, PCs, Vision Systems & network troubleshooting) related to production machinery and systems
  • Capable of using electrical testing equipment to diagnose problems
  • Communicate with suppliers for troubleshooting
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor or College degree in Automation or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in highly automated production environment
  • Familiar with GAMP requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of PLCs Allen Bradley and Siemens (troubleshooting & programming)
  • Experience with Vision systems, SCADA and SQL/Oracle
  • Good knowledge of GMP in Pharma environment and of Health and Safety Regulations
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, project management software, Microsoft office
  • Bilingual in both French and English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including written (reports, schedules, etc.); verbal (contractors, suppliers, union employees) and facilitation (employee training)
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Experience in Biologics manufacturing is desirable
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
