LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Full-Time Float Technical Resources,Molecular Diagnostic to join our team in Surrey, British Columbia

The Molecular Diagnostics Technical Resource is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to team members within the Molecular discipline, ensuring quality and efficiency standards are maintained. The Technical Resource reports directly to the Technical Supervisor and works closely with the Molecular Supervisor to ensure the smooth technical operation of their assigned areas of expertise.


  • Complete and maintain the molecular technologist responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance to the team by assisting with interpreting testing and procedural protocols, coordinating problem solving and implementing solutions in conjunction with Medical Scientific staff, Supervisors, Quality Resources etc., as appropriate.
  • Ensures high quality standards are met with regards to quality control, quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Considers and recommends improvements in the methodology or workflow.
  • Coordinates training and orientation of new staff in respective areas. Provides training input to the Supervisors and technical input into employee performance development.
  • Develops and maintains Competency Assurance program for existing staff.
  • Coordinates, develops and implements new methodologies, studies, workflow and operational processes. Updates operational or technical manuals as required.
  • Incorporates LEAN principles in all process changes.
  • Maintains confidentiality involving any information made available directly or indirectly about clients, including physicians, patients, employees and the company.
  • Participates in Molecular related meetings (Discipline, project, protocol, decision making, etc.)
  • Works collaboratively with other Molecular sites to build Provincially standardized protocols and practices within LifeLabs.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to new areas of expertise
  • Supports and demonstrates Lifelabs’ vision (Caring, Knowledge, Action) and core values (Customer Focus, Accountability, Respect and Excellence).
  • Works in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety standards


  • Current CSMLS registration or equivalent
  • 5 years of recent technical experience in Molecular is preferred
  • Additional experience or training on project or protocol teams, LEAN, or quality assurance programs is an asset
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel and PowerPoint) and Web based applications
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, support teams and clients, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within BC Molecular
  • Minimum requirements for this position include Certification (or eligible for certification) as CSMLS Clinical Genetics Technologist OR CSMLS Cytogenetics Technologist OR CSMLS Registered Technologist. Relevant clinical molecular course work or degree, AND a minimum of 5-years related work experience in clinical molecular diagnostics is an asset, but those with less experience may be considered
