Position Overview:

Primary Care Representative is responsible for creating demand for Abbott products and will be considered a strong team player despite working autonomously most of the time. Under the supervision and coaching of the RM, the Primary Care Representative will be responsible for sampling & detailing adult and pediatric products to community-based HCPs (GP’s, RN’s, RD’s).

  • Primary Care Representative plays a key role in ensuring customers are well-stocked with Abbott Nutrition samples and materials and that the customers understand how to use them.
  • Primary Care Representatives maintains records of sampling and selling activities in real time (use of, pre-post call entries, maintenance of key HCP list, etc.).
  • He/she prepares his/her territory business plan and ensure proper analysis of territory KPI’s while effectively using dashboards to analyze progress and determine next steps.
  • Sampling of both adult and pediatric product lines to community-based HCP (GP, RN and RD)
  • Maximize usage of samples to drive recommendation and trial
  • Enters all call details in calendar up to date
  • Responsible for all pre-post call analysis
  • Provides weekly reports to RSM (expenses)
  • Analysis of KPIs to ensure that all territory trends are accounted for. Provides updated territory business plan to RSM on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Keeps key HCP list up to date
  • Updates territory business plan (budgets, plan of actions for key customers, key list assessment vs. call average and results analysis, etc.)
  • Prepares and presents territory business review to RSM (quarterly)


  • BA or equivalent in business, marketing or science – background in nutrition an asset
  • 1-3 years of experience

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Aptitude for quickly developing relationships and gaining access to customers;
  • Adaptable from a scheduling perspective;
  • Strong territory management skills;
  • Maintenance of a valid driver’s license at all times:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and manage car stock and sample delivery to customers;
  • Available for overnight trips, depending on territory could represent between 0-10%.
  • An interest or background in nutrition is a significant asset as well as mobility and desire to progress within the sales force organization as opportunities arise.
  • Job requires daily use of basic computer software like MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Outlook and
