 THE COMPANY

enGene Inc. is a high growth biotechnology company developing a robust, proprietary non-viral vector platform to deliver genes to various epithelial tissues. The vector system can be administered to the intestine via the oral or enema route, or the bladder via instillation. enGene is developing its unique gut optimized gene delivery formulation into an orally available "Gene Pill™", which has the potential to be a platform for oral delivery of a wide range of therapeutic protein drugs. The Company's primary focus is to apply its technology to enable localized delivery of therapeutic proteins to the gut and other epithelial tissues for treating various disorders.

ROLE

enGene is currently seeking versatile and dynamic Research Associate/Scientist candidates to be an integral part of the Pre-Clinical Development team. Research Associates/Scientists will perform experiments and develop/optimize assays in molecular and cellular biology to generate preclinical data for platform and drug development. Research Associates/Scientists will work in a dynamic, fast-paced and highly collaborative environment, mainly interacting with the Project Leaders, the Bioassay Manager and other Research Associate/Scientist colleagues. They will also contribute to perpetuate the company culture that promotes our values (Patient-focused, Integrity, Innovation and Teamwork).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform quantification assays in support of in vitro and in vivo studies (mainly RT-qPCR and ELISA), in accordance to laboratory policies with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Contribute to the development/implementation/optimization/validation of new assays using the best industry practices to support platform development and drug discovery programs.
  • May use diverse techniques related to cell culture and transfection, flow cytometry, microscopy/immunofluorescence, molecular biology (e.g. cloning strategy, restriction enzyme digestion, DNA and RNA isolation) and functional assays.
  • Participate in planning experiments and evaluating/interpreting/presenting test results.
  • Maintain compliance in relation to Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) filing. 
  • May interact with CROs, as needed. This can include new technology assessment, methods validation/troubleshooting and sample testing/analysis.  
  • Participate in departmental and inter-departmental meetings, as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.Sc. with 5+ years or M.Sc. with 3+ years of experience with bioassays in a regulated environment (Experience in Pharma, Biotech or CRO is preferred).
  • Experience with mucosal epithelial surfaces, including work with primary cells/tissues, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and/or Bladder cancer is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance such as GLP and GMP is an asset. SKILLS

  • Proven ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure with tight timelines. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite as well as GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English (French represents an asset).
