ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a medical laboratory scientist, you will have the following professional challenges:

In cooperation with the Innovation Department, you will be responsible for proposing and guiding the development of new tests, methods and technologies; you will contribute to the review and approval of complex biomedical analysis matters, specifically in immunohematology and erythrocytic and platelet genotyping.
Reporting to the Director of the Registry and Stem Cell and Reference Laboratories, the incumbent acts as a consultant in the transfusion medicine field. He/she provides technical and scientific advice to colleagues and the administrative staff regarding a strategy for operating the laboratories and ensuring the provision of optimal levels of service. He/she does scientific and medical monitoring in connection with his/her areas of expertise.

Specifically, you will have to:

  • Act as a consultant regarding erythrocytic and platelet antigens and erythrocytic and platelet immunohematology;
  • Do continuous overall and relevant scientific monitoring regarding red blood cells, blood platelets, and new technologies in transfusion medicine;
  • Contribute to the review and approval of biomedical analysis matters;
  • Contribute to the resolution of complex cases in erythrocytic genotyping and immunohematology;
  • Give external presentations (conferences, seminars, meetings of experts);
  • Contribute to the publishing of scientific papers;
  • Exercise independent judgement as a consultant in a variety of areas (complex clinical matters, calls for tenders, scientific evaluation of projects, etc.);
  • Collaborate in technology transfer, validation and establishing of new methods and new technologies;
  • Ensure that processes are compliant with the applicable standards and legislation;
  • Perform all other duties in connection with the position.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A graduate degree in biological sciences, biochemistry or molecular biology, or any other relevant field (experience deemed equivalent may also be considered);
  • At least five years of experience directly related to the specific responsibilities of the job;
  • Very fluent in English and French, both oral and written;
  • In-depth knowledge of good clinical practices;
  • Proficient with the main tools and software (Microsoft Office);
  • Willing to travel within Québec and occasionally outside Québec and Canada;
  • Any combination of education and experience deemed relevant will be considered for staffing purposes.
