Position Summary This position will be scheduled for every-other-weekend shifts, from 1:00 pm-9:00 pm, along with additional shifts to cover staff vacations and scheduled days off. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Assistant will be responsible for technical and clerical functions in the area assigned. All rotations include responsibility for continuous quality improvement and workload measurement. Primary Responsibilities Delivering medications to clinical units Picking up medications returned from clinical units Putting away medication returns/unpacking medications received from distributors/vendors Pre-packaging & barcoding medications Preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds Ward stock replenishment Quality assurance activities including but not limited to: expiry date checking, medication storage area inspections and audits Other duties as assigned Education Requirements Pharmacy Technician program graduates (those awaiting registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists) - preferred but not required Mandatory Qualifications Previous Retail or Hospital Pharmacy Assistant experience an asset Keyboarding skills utilizing PC applications for reports and special assignments Mandatory Competencies Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a team focus Self-directed individual with the ability to work both independently and within an inter professional team Mature, reliable individual with excellent attendance record Creative problem solver with a customer focus and patient friendly approach Good understanding of medication safety and quality assurance Proven critical thinking skills Ability to multi task and set priorities in a rapidly changing environment Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts Primary Responsibilities Also Include Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. Requirements
Candidates should ideally be Pharmacy Technician program graduates or have previous retail or hospital pharmacy experience. Proficiency in PC applications and strong interpersonal skills are required.
