About the role

Overview

Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a Mid-Level Hydrotechnical Engineer to perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, numerical modeling, and the design of hydraulic structures, dams, and fish passage facilities. This role supports floodplain mapping, dam safety assessments, and water infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams from concept through construction. Qualified candidates will have 4–6 years of hydrotechnical engineering experience, P.Eng. registration (or ability to obtain it), and proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and hydraulic modeling applications. This full-time position is open to candidates located in Peterborough, Ontario; Halifax, Nova Scotia or in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Pay range: $ 95,000 - $112,000 CAN

Responsibilities:

Complete hydrology and hydraulic analyses for water resources, dam safety, and infrastructure projects. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic numerical modeling using industry-standard software. Assist with the design of hydraulic structures, dams, fish passage facilities, and related infrastructure. Develop floodplain mapping, inundation studies, dam breach analyses, and consequence assessments. Support dam decommissioning, dam removal, stream restoration, and fish passage engineering projects. Collaborate with engineers, scientists, data analysts, and regulatory specialists to develop project solutions. Contribute to projects through all phases of delivery, from conceptual design through issued-for-construction drawings. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hydraulic engineering requirements into project designs. Support hydropower feasibility studies and renewable energy infrastructure projects. Work closely with senior engineers and technical experts to develop specialized hydrotechnical engineering expertise. Consult with regulators, biologists, and other stakeholders as required. Travel periodically to support project and client needs.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or commitment to obtain licensure within one year. 4–6 years of experience in hydrotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Experience completing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and applying hydrology and hydraulics engineering principles. Experience with open channel flow analysis and numerical modeling. Proficiency with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS modeling software. Experience designing hydraulic structures, dams, or water resources infrastructure. Experience performing hydrologic studies, including Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) and Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) analyses. Experience with floodplain mapping, dam breach studies, and consequence assessments. Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams. Experience coordinating project work with other engineering disciplines. Authorization to work in Canada and ability to obtain authorization to work in the United States as required. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel. Experience with dam safety projects. Experience in fish passage engineering and fish passage structure design. Experience with CFD modeling software such as FLOW-3D. Knowledge of Canadian Dam Association Guidelines, bulletins, and applicable provincial regulations. Experience with river ice studies. Experience with dam decommissioning, dam removal, stream restoration, or hydropower feasibility projects. Experience collaborating with regulators, biologists, and environmental scientists. Ability to obtain and maintain additional provincial engineering licenses as needed.
