The Pharmacy Technician performs routine pharmaceutical work of a technical and clerical nature. Duties will include but are not limited to: Drug distribution duties including filling, compounding, and checking prescriptions and ward stock; Preparing sterile intravenous product, including cancer chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition (TPN); Interviewing patients to create a “Best Possible Med History” (BPMH) and entering medication history information into the clinical information system (CIS); Assisting with inventory maintenance (e.g., purchasing, receiving, returns, etc.); Conveying information and materials related to the activities of the Department; Maintaining pharmacy supplies and equipment; Performing other related and allied duties which contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department; PacMed and PacVision Unit dosing dispensing; The Pharmacy Technician will have demonstrated competency in sterile parenteral preparation, checking prescriptions and wardstock, and obtaining Best Possible Medication Histories, or must successfully complete an internal certification/competency program(s) in at least two of these three areas within one year. Minimum Qualifications: This position requires that the incumbent to be currently registered as a pharmacy technician with the PEI College of Pharmacists (as outlined in the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations). Successful completion of Grade 12. A working knowledge of computers and pharmacy related software. Neat and legible handwriting. The ability to make accurate mathematical calculations. A good previous work and attendance record. Other Qualifications: Previous experience in hospital pharmacy practice is considered an asset. Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset. Successful applicants are expected to complete the term of temporary assignment unless appointed to a permanent position. Requirements
Applicants must be registered as a pharmacy technician with the PEI College of Pharmacists and have completed Grade 12. They must have computer and pharmacy software knowledge, legible handwriting, accurate calculation skills, and a good work and attendance record; competency in at least two specified pharmacy practice areas is required or must be achieved through internal certification within one year.
